Sometimes when we think of missions we imagine going on an adventurous overseas trip to a tropical location. What would you say if you could also participate in missions 15 minutes down the freeway here in the bustling metropolis of Sacramento?

Now we know what you may be thinking. It’s a bit scary to step into cross-cultural friendships, especially if this is your first time. Don’t worry! That’s normal. We’ve got your back. Come with us; we want you to meet some of the most fun, intelligent, hardworking, and responsible individuals from all over the world. We’ll be there with you step-by-step.

In fact, in many of the countries where these students come, it would be very difficult as a westerner to enter their country as a missionary. God is the most creative God. He has willingly motivated and brought future leaders, engineers, doctors, teachers, and computer programmers here to study in our neighborhoods at Sac. State, Sac City, ARC, Sierra, and Jessup University.

These students are coming at a very vulnerable time in their lives. Sometimes they are as young as 17 and 18 years old. They are often initially very homesick and are experiencing culture shock. They want to learn about the American culture, and it is normal for them to engage in spiritual conversations. They want to enter your home and meet your family. Hospitality is at the heart of our work.

This is what our student club, International Life, offers – a home away from home, a place where students can open up, be themselves, and learn. God’s ministry among international students can be summed up in three words, WIN, BUILD, and SEND. At the core of the ministry is discipleship where the goal is for students to become multiplying disciples. We have seen God work in amazing ways including sending some of our students back to their home country to reach their own people.

Would you prayerfully consider joining what God is doing in our neighborhood and ultimately in many nations around the world? God is on the move right here in Sacramento!
